Description
The high interior plateau of Yellowstone in Hayden Valley receives some of the heaviest snowfall of the park. The prevailing southwest winds blow the snow off the ridges and deposit it in deep drifts on the leeward slopes and drainages. Bison make trails through or around these drifts to reach the wind-exposed grass on the ridgetops.
