Description
This coyote was traveling across Lamar Valley one November. She caught a meadow vole in the shallow snow, locating it primarily by sound. When she arrived at the open pond she looked at the bones of an elk on the other side. It was obvious she debated whether to detour around the pond or wade through the cold water to investigate the carcass. Gingerly and quickly, she waded across and spent the next twenty minutes chewing on some of the elk bones.
