Description
The Crab spider does not build a web, like most spiders; instead, it lies in wait to ambush its prey, holding onto the plant with its hind feet while struggling with insects sometimes larger than itself in its four long, front feet. Spiders are arthropods with eight legs and un-segmented abdomens. They build nets, webs, and/or egg sacs out of a strong fine thread called silk. Spiders have used their silk tools for millions of years to make a living as predators, eating mostly insects. Most are secretive and nocturnal to avoid their predators such as wasps and birds.
