Winter is the best time to observe Yellowstone’s thermal features because they are so much more dramatic and visible than during the summer. The interaction between boiling water and subzero air creates an entirely unique world of clouds, fogs, frosts, ice, and winds. This small thermal feature produces an impressive column of steam in the Upper Geyser Basin.
