Description
Along the open water of the Yellowstone River in Hayden Valley these adult trumpeter swans were resting on the edge of the ice in a spot with good visibility up and down the river secure from coyote predation. They stood up, stretched and yawned, and with subtle head bobs and low throaty trumpets, they started to walk to the right signaling to each other, finally they took off to fly up river to a feeding spot in the shallower water of an eddy.
